Tasting, sipping for the new Edgartown Library

One hundred and twenty Edgartown Library supporters filled Lattanzi’s Restaurant on Friday evening for the second annual Evening in Tuscany.

Hosted by the Edgartown Library Foundation, the wine and cheese tasting raised funds for and interest in programs and services offered by the library, according to Heather Cohan, a foundation board member.

A variety of regional cheeses were paired with the wines by chef Albert Lattanzi, who also donated the space and provided some other hearty appetizers for the crowd. Raffle tickets were sold and drawings were held throughout the event for six magnum bottles of Chianti donated by Al’s package store, dinner for two at Lattanzi’s, and the grand prize — a beautiful landscape by Claudio Gasparini of Italy and Martha’s Vineyard. Anda Woodward was the lucky recipient of the painting.

Along with Ms. Cohan, short speeches were given by library director Felicia Cheney, Anne Vose, a director of the Edgartown Library Foundation, and Pat Rose, president of the library board of trustees. Edgartown School principal John Stevens talked briefly about the plan for the new library and his support of it, although the details are still being debated.

“This was an opportunity to rally support for the town’s recent grant proposal to the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners for expansion of the library adjacent to the Edgartown School,” foundation publicist Danielle Pendergraft said.

Ms. Vose added, “The foundation looks forward to working closely with the town and library trustees to educate voters on the plans and raise support.”

Ms. Cohan also took the opportunity to announce the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be presented to long-time Chappy resident and former selectman Edo Potter at the library’s next fundraising event, A Legacy of Learning Summer Brunch to be held July 10 at The Field Club.
