To the Editor:

We’d like to thank all those who helped make the Martha’s Vineyard Youth Leadership Initiative’s Job Shadow Day a great success. Each February, the National Groundhog Job Shadow Day gives young people a new perspective on their studies through hands-on learning and a one-day mentoring experience. More than one million students and 100,000 businesses participate nationwide.

We’re grateful to the MV Chamber for inviting their members. To Martha’s Vineyard Museum for hosting our reception. To all those mentors who spent the afternoon with our young people: Cape Air, Educomp, MV Hospital, Rubin Douglas-Vineyard Time, Steel Butterfly, The FARM Institute, Circuit Style, and those who will in the coming weeks: Beadniks Inc., Eco MV, Galen Films, Island Alpaca, Mindshare Media and MVY Radio. And to those who offered: Mass Audubon of Felix Neck, Building Shelter, Craig’s Bicycles, MV Community Services, Rentschler & Company and SBS. Special thanks to MVYLI Project Coordinator Rebecca Rabeni and Youth Coordinator Emma HallBilsback. This had led to great learning experiences, mentorships, and summer jobs.

We look forward to this becoming an annual event that will inspire our young people towards realizing their dreams for their lives, their Island, and the world.
