Vineyard Youth Tennis (VYT) hosted a pro/junior exhibition match on Feb. 2 that pitted two of the club’s professionals against two of the Island’s best junior tennis players.
VYT executive director Scott Smith teamed up with Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School senior and second singles player Kent Leonard against VYT head pro Mike Halisky and Reid Yennie, who plays first singles for MVRHS.
A large crowd was on hand to cheer on both teams and was treated to excellent tennis, as well as pizza and beverages.
The match went the distance. Halisky/Yennie took the first set 6-2. Smith/Leonard won the second set 7-6 (8-6 in the tiebreaker), and won the match 10-8 in the championship tie-breaker.
