Bourne sent its boys varsity and junior varsity teams to the Sancy Pachico gym Wendesday, to do battle with the Vineyarders. Unfortunately for the Warriors, they found the Islanders ready and more than willing to defend the home turf with impressive efforts and even more impressive offensive intensity.
The MV Jayvees led at the half, 40-27, and grew that to a 71-45 final. Andrew Hakala and Izak Browne led the atttack on the Warriors’ net with 16 and 13 points respectively.
The varsity win, a 69-48 scalding, was even more exciting for MV fans who packed the gymnasium. Peter Keaney was all but unstoppable. He poured 30 points into Bourne’s net and was a constant threat on defense.
But basketball is a consummate team game, and Jette, Van Gervan, Araujo. Stewart and Ciciora contributed significantly to the happy outcome.
It was the Vineyard’s fifteenth win against three losses.
