Mass median home sale price below $300K
Nearly 2,200 homes were sold in Massachusetts last month, a 5 percent increase over January 2010, according to data released Tuesday morning, the State House News Service reported.
The median sale price of $270,000 last month was down 7 percent from $290,000 a year ago and marked the fifth consecutive month that the median sale price was below $300,000. The January sales volume was the highest since January 2007 when 2,953 homes sold in Massachusetts.
"It's promising to see the highest sales volume in four years in the state," Timothy Warren Jr., CEO of The Warren Group, said in a statement. "However, a little later in the year, positive comparisons with 2010 will be tougher to achieve. In the spring, we will be comparing current sales with sales volume during the height of the homebuyer tax credit."
