Edgartown approves special town meeting warrant

Edgartown selectmen Monday approved a 10-article special town meeting warrant for voters to consider prior to the annual town meeting on April 12. The special town meeting warrant deals mostly with public safety spending requests.

The requests include: $37,456 for fire department salaries, to cover shifts for two employees that have been unable to work since July 1, 2010; a request for $28,715 to repair and upgrade the fire department ladder truck for recertification; $40,000 to purchase and equip a new police cruiser, and permission to sell an old cruiser; $8,988 for retroactive payments to summer police officers who were paid at the wrong rate; and $10,361 to cover an assistant animal control officer’s salary while the animal control officer was injured.

The community preservation committee has also recommended voters approve an additional $25,000, for a total of $50,000 to repair the town bell in the Old Whaling Church.
