Happy St. Paddy’s Day! Hope you are wearing your green, because Mother Nature sure is. That’s right, those are daffodil shoots I spy sticking up through the collected winter debris. And though this time change thing is always a bit jarring for people and pets alike, how nice to see a sunset at the appropriate time of day.

I’d have thought it was April Fool’s Day the way last week’s column turned out — by publication, several events had changed both locations and dates. I always try to include contact information, so be sure and check these. I hope I left no one stranded in the cold.

Author Jean Stone will speak at the library Saturday, March 19, at 2 pm about her novel-in-progress, her many novels set on the Vineyard, and the changes she’s seen in the publishing industry since she began her writing career. Ms. Stone, who also writes under the name of Abby Drake, has written six popular novels set on Martha’s Vineyard. If you peek into the reference room on your next visit to the Edgartown Library, you might just see her at a laptop under the big fern, working on her next novel.

The Edgartown School will host a presentation on bullying Tuesday, March 22, from 6:30 to 8 pm in the school library. Jeanine Fitzgerald will discuss what bullying is and what to do when your child reports an incident to you. Great information.

Mark your calendars! The Annual Town Meeting will be held at 7 pm on Tuesday, April 12 at the Old Whaling Church. The warrant is now available for download on the town’s web site, www.edgartown-ma.us. Hope to see you there.

The Martha’s Vineyard Women’s Network will host a discussion of social media Tuesday, March 22, from 6 to 8 pm, in the Baylies Room of the Old Whaling Church. “Putting the ‘Media’ in Social Media: Figuring Out What You Have To Say” will be presented by Margot Bloomstein. MVWN also announces that they will be awarding one $2,500 grant to a local small business operator based on Martha’s Vineyard looking to improve, grow, or start a new business. Applications must be post-marked by April 8. Information can be found at mvwomensnetwork.org.

A belated happy birthday to Ethan Morgan, who blew out his candles March 6. Father, Dylan, flew out to Ethan’s home in Oklahoma for the festivities.

Chris Smith celebrated her March 6 birthday this past weekend at her home in Weston, Conn. With all six grandchildren in attendance, she had plenty of help blowing out those candles. Can’t wait to see all those little ones back on Summer Street soon.

Happy birthday to Torean Joseph Guarino-Corwin, who will blow out his first candle today. This weekend, there will be cakes aplenty for the Townes family, as Zach celebrates March 19, followed by Dan on March 20. Also March 19, sound the sirens for Officer Michael Snowden, as he celebrates his day.

Nelson C. Smith and his wife Ann married on March 17, 1951. They will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends tonight at the Ocean View Restaurant in Oak Bluffs.

It seems spring is right around the corner, so as we await those pinkletinks, may your day be filled with four-leaf clovers and pots o’ gold — or at the very least some delicious corned beef and cabbage.
