Both the MV Youth Hockey Pee-Wee and Bantam teams won their respective tournaments at the Lake Placid Arena in March, the same 1932 and 1980 Olympics arena where the U.S. “miracle team” defeated the heavily favored Russians.

The MV Bantams went undefeated, winning all five of their games to claim the PAN/AM tourney championship.

Thursday, March 10, MV defeated the New Jersey Blues of Montclair, 5-0. The next day they beat the Bears from Bridgewater, N.J., 4-1 and the Trilake. N.Y. Timberwolves 6-2.

Saturday, they shut out Barre. Vermont, 4-0.

In the championship gold medal game they repeated their mastery of Montclair, N.J., 5-0.

Team coaches are Mick Vukota, Greg Carroll, and Mike Jackson.

Also at Lake Placid the MV PeeWees went 5-0 to claim top honors in their CAN/AM tournament.

In the first tourney game, March 10, they squeezed by Montclair, N.J., 1-0. The next day they closed the door on Huntsville, Ontario, 3-0. That evening they were tested by Westchester but finished in the win column, 3-2.

Saturday’s game with Mid-State of Andover, Mass., was a 4-1 win.

The championship game was scoreless until just 33 seconds remained in the third period. Final score: MV 1, Huntsville Ontario 0.
