Coast Guard Auxiliary seeks Martha’s Vineyard members

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 11-2 Woods Hole, Detachment Martha’s Vineyard had its first meeting on March 12 at the American Legion Hall in Vineyard Haven. In support of the Coast Guard, the volunteer Auxiliary offers vessel safety checks, harbor patrols, safe boating courses, and helps in search and rescue efforts and marine environmental protection.

The local chapter of the Auxiliary is looking for new members. “Wherever your interests lie, and whatever life skills you have, chances are the Coast Guard Auxiliary can offer you an area to serve that will enrich your life in ways you may not imagine,” Auxiliary member David Pothier of Oak Bluffs said in a recent press release.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 17 years old, and pass a basic background check. They must be physically able to perform certain tasks.

For more information, call Mr. Pothier at 508-693-6544.
