Night Heron Gallery opens in Vineyard Haven

There is a bright light coming on in the world of art this Friday. The newest Island gallery is opening its doors on Main Street in Vineyard Haven.

Beldan K. Radcliffe, a partner in the new gallery, opens up about this special venture. “Ten Island artists have come together as partners to open Night Heron Gallery, an artist-run collaborative gallery. A close group, most of us have known each other for a long time and have dreamed of having a gallery where we could show our work together. The gallery is run by us and features our own work, so at any time you visit you will meet one of the actual artists.”

With much talent, Night Heron Gallery is able to offer art in many varied, eye-pleasing mediums. Representing fine jewelry are Diana Stewart, Kathleen Tackabury, and Ms. Radcliffe, who also works with etchings and collage. Ms. Stewart specializes in hand-fabricated one-of-a-kind and limited edition jewelry, while Ms. Tackabury uses precious and semi-precious stones in sterling silver for her original designs. Ms. Radcliffe creates collaged, beaded jewelry along with original etchings with chine-colle’ (a unique printmaking technique), and colorful collaged lampshades.

Ingrid Goff-Maidoff will display hand sewn books of poetry, and Whitney Moody will show vibrant-colored fiber arts in such forms as felted bags, totes, and hats. Lisa Strachan and Washington Ledesma, who will also share his works in paint, honor the art of ceramics. Ms. Strachan’s ceramics are constructed using the slab hand-building technique, while Mr. Ledesma is masterful in his use of terra-cotta. Ann Howes showcases her well-known sharp contrasts in watercolors, while Carolyn Warren exhibits her light, airy paintings and sculpture. Rounding out the team is Nick Thayer, who works in ceramics, printmaking, and painting.

When asked, Ms. Radcliffe shared what excited her most about being part of this collaborative. “I’d definitely say it’s our wonderful group of incredibly talented artists. We inspire one another, we have great friendships and mutual respect, and we support each other’s success. I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work with in this exciting new venture.”

If you are eager to see what they have in store for you, you don’t have to worry about waiting as they open the doors this Friday, April 1, at 10 am. Later that evening, from 5 to 7 pm, is an Opening Reception with all of the artists in attendance.
