Home court advantage did not save Somerset from falling before the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School boys’ tennis team onslaught, Friday.

Reid Yennie was perfect at first singles, 6-0, 6-0. So was Patrick McCarthy at third singles, 6-0, 6-0. At second singles, Kent Leonard lost just one game, overwhelming his opponent, 6-0, 6-1.

The Justice-Yennie, Jackson-McBride doubles team won easily, 6-2, 6-0, as did Justin-Smith and Ryan-Sawyer, 6-1, 6-1.

Last Wednesday, April 6, the boys played Sandwich on the Vineyard and expected to have a very competitive match with a veteran team. The Island boys’ tennis team had a surprisingly easy time of it, sweeping the Blue Knights in five straight sets on the Vineyard.

At first singles Reid Yennie disposed of Matthew Martin, 6-1. 6-1.

At second singles Kent Leonard was even more dominant, 6-0, 6-1, over Ben Siranisian.

Not to be different, Patrick McCarthy, in his first varsity test, cruised by Jamie Bryant, 6-0, 6-1.

Both doubles teams won handily. Jackson-McBride and Justice-Yennie prevailed 6-3, 6-1 and Justin-Smith and Ryan-Sawyer completed the sweep, 6-2, 6-2.

Yesterday, the Islanders were rained out of their match with Cape Cod Academy, the MIAA Division 3 South champions of 2010 and 2009.
