For the towns, not the MVC

To the Editor:

It isn’t necessary to make house size, minimum or maximum, a matter of referral to the M.V. Commission. It is a matter for the towns to decide their character and housing issues.

Perhaps the town planners should consider a limit on house size, based on ratio of square footage to minimum lot size for the district. That way, if a large lot gets subdivided, the house cannot be overly large for it. For instance, a ratio of 1:2 (or 50 percent) would mean the square footage of the house would be no greater than half the size of the lot. Right now, all you have to do is meet the setback and septic regulations.

By the way, I prefer to think of these houses as “future castles of America.”
