The first quarter of 2011 delivered an across-the-board decline in Steamship Authority traffic volumes, compared with data for last year.
Martha’s Vineyard passenger traffic fell 2.6 percent, autos 0.4 percent, and freight(trucks) 1.5 percent.
For Nantucket, passenger volume fell 1.5 percent and autos 4 percent. A bright spot, if the description is warranted, was freight, up 1.4 percent to and from the distant island.
Across the line as a whole, revenue, because of rate increases, rose 4 percent for passengers, 4.8 percent from trucks. Auto revenue declined 0.7 percent.
