Jessica June Weaver, 84, of Oak Bluffs died on April 11 at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital.

Jessica had a very interesting life, starting as a high-fashion model in California, executive assistant to various corporate heads in New York City, until she decided to open her own dress shop, Jam Today, in the city. Her shop was patronized by many distinguished people in the arts.

Jessica enjoyed life and was extremely creative. She could cook, paint, sew, do ceramics, and knit, among many other crafts. Jessica was also involved in causes close to her heart, including the preservation of the earth and its wildlife. Her most recent project was to network with groups trying to save polar bears. Jessica recently began to write her memoirs, but became too ill to continue.

She is survived by her sister Ferne Farber of Michigan; two nephews, Allan and Fred Goldstein of New York City, and two nieces, Cynthia and Victoria of New Jersey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Weaver of Oak Bluffs; her sister Annette Goldstein and her brother George Farber, both from New York City.

Per Jessica’s request, a memorial service will be held this fall at Windemere Nursing and Rehab where Jessica spent the last years of her life. A notice will appear about this service. Arrangements are under the care of Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, Oak Bluffs.
