Better than the pinkletinks, a sure sign of summer showed up, Monday, April 25, when the Little League Tigers took on the Cardinals at Veira Park, Oak Bluffs, and were edged by the redbirds in a thriller, 7-6.

Bengals’ pitcher Mitchell Chaves held the Cards to a single run in four innings of relief, supported by excellent fielding by Nick Andre and Hollis Kelly. Cardinal relievers Tristan Araujo and Nick Vukota kept the Tigers in check and each contributed an rbi hit.

With the game tied and extra innings looming, Anthony Jackson of the Cardinals worked a two-out base on balls in the bottom of the sixth, advanced on passed balls, and scored the winning run when Jonas Lukowitz doubled.

Wednesday the Cubs hosted the Pirates.

Saturday at noon, the Pirates and Cubs will go at it and the Tigers and Cards resume hostilities at 2:30 pm.

The Saturday games will be preceded by opening ceremonies.

All players of all four leagues should gather at the O.B. Police Station in full uniforms at 9:30 am, then, at 10 am, parade down Circuit Avenue to Veira Park.

At 10:30 am teams will be introduced and the National Anthem will be sung.

All 24 teams — Major and Minor Little Leagues, Farm League and Tee Ball — will be photographed.
