The South Mountain Company announced it has completed the largest solar installation on Martha's Vineyard, a 92KW solar electric array and a 480-square foot solar water heating system at The Grey Barn and Farm off South Road in Chilmark.
South Mountain Company's Energy Services Division, installed both systems, which in total, have the potential to offset the electric use of 15 average Massachusetts homes, and water heating for 8-9 homes, according to a press release.
The project was partially funded with American Recovery Reinvestment Act (ARRA) money. South Mountain Company was chosen "for its ability to install the systems with local technicians and expedite the installation to meet the ARRA grant completion deadline," according to a press release.
"We're pleased that we were able to use a local firm to install a large commercial system," Eric Glasgow of Grey Barn and Farm said. "It's good to know that Martha's Vineyard has such a skilled resource for solar installations."
