Marguerite P. Mackay-Davenport

Marguerite P. (Clements) Mackay-Davenport, 93, formerly of Fairhaven, died on Sunday, May 15, at the New Bedford Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Henry R. Davenport and the late Chester T. Mackay Jr.

Born in Montreal, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Albert R. Clements Sr. and the late Blanche (Bernier) Clements. She came to the U.S. when she was seven years old and grew up on Martha’s Vineyard where she graduated from Oak Bluffs High School. Marguerite attended the St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing and later worked for the BPM and Shaw’s Supermarkets where she managed the lunch counter for over 23 years until her retirement in 1978.

Marguerite settled in Fairhaven in 1943, and she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was a former Girl Scout leader and a member of the British Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice L. Aubut and her husband, Roland, of Oak Bluffs and Barbara Ogaard and her husband, Kaare, of Bothell, Wash.; two step-children, Henry R. Davenport Jr. and his wife, Sandra, and Barbara Bonville and her husband, Paul, all of Acushnet; a sister, Maryann White of Florida; two daughters-in-law, Christine Mackay of New Bedford and Ann Mackay of Fairhaven and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Robert “Doug” Mackay and Chester R. Mackay and sister of the late Guy, Roland, Percy, Benjamin, and Albert Clements Jr. and Alice Lockridge.

Calling hours are Thursday, May 19, from 4 to 8 pm in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven. Her funeral will be Friday, May 20, at 8 am from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in St. Mary’s Church in Fairhaven. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery in New Bedford.
