Darts results

Darters met at the Portuguese-American Club in Oak Bluffs Thursday and here are the results of league play:

Jack Welch, Dana Resendes, and Jeff Wray won the night after winning 8-3 over Robert O’Sullivan, Peter Searle, and Brenda Welch, securing their first place status with 56 total games won over the nine-week session.

Second place went to O’Sullivan’s team with 54.

James Rowell, Rene Mathieu and Linda Wood took third with 53, and Michael Lipinsky, Gus Leaf, and Lisa Mathieu came in fourth with 35.

Peter Searle leads the League with 24 tons;Dana Resendes leads with 7 singles matches won.Best three-dart-on goes to Peter Searle with 120, andbest three-dart-out is 128 by Michael Lipinsky.

MV drops the (soft) ball

Bishop Stang handed the Vineyarders a 14-6 softball loss, Friday, at North Dartmouth.

The Islanders’ bats were lively, collecting a dozen hits, but they were undone by an error-prone defense.

Crystle Miske was 3 for 4 at the plate including a triple. One of Micheli Lynn’s two hits was also a triple. Jillian Sedlier and Alicia Oliveira also hit safely twice.

It was the Vineyarders seventh loss against six wins.They are 0-6 in the Eastern Athletic Conference.

Girls tennis beats Coyle & Cassidy

The girls’ tennis team netted Coyle & Cassidy, last Thursday, 4-1. First singles player Annie Burton lost her match to Savannah Costa, 4-6, 3-6.

At second singles Dylan Brockmeyer worked had to win the first match, 7-5, then sailed through the second, 6-1.

MV won the third singles match by default,

At first doubles, Julia Cooper and Annabelle Hackney swept, 6-0, 6-0. Michaella Baines and Wendy Wen prevailed with ease at second, 6-1, 6-0.

Little League all-star schedule

The Little League Major and Minor Leagues will play All Star games on Sunday, May 29, at Veira Park, Oak Bluffs (not Saturday as reported incorrectly in the print edition). Four players will be chosen from each Major and Minor League team to create 12 player rosters for two American League teams and two National League teams.

The Minor League All Stars game will begin at 1 pm. The Major League All Star game will follow at 3 pm.

Women’s Softball

The MV Women’s Softball League is on the verge of beginning its seventh season. Meanwhile, there are pick up games at Tisbury’s Veterans War Memorial Park every Tuesday until June 7 at 6:00 pm,

Youth travel lacrosse

The Under-13 Martha’s Vineyard Boys Youth Lacrosse boys team lost to the Falmouth Maroons at the high school, Sunday, 9-4.

Islanders scoring were Henry Wallace twice, assisted by Jack Garrett twice, Jacob Gunderson and Sam Wallace assisted by Chris Patnaude.

Coach Bruce Mahaffey lauded the effective work of JJ Mendez in goal.

The U-15 girls’ lacrosse team beat Nantucket at Bourne, Sunday, 10-5. Aubrey Ashmun had a hat trick. Lucy Hackney, Lee Hayman, and Lacey Dinning all scored twice. Shannon Morris also scored.

The U-13 girls topped Bourne at Bourne by the same 10-5 margin. Both Kylie Hatt and Lacey Dinning scored three times. Audrey McCarron and Erin Hill each added two.

Both girls’ teams are home this weekend, hosting Hanover beginning at 12:30 pm.

Masters match Mansfield

The Martha’s Vineyard entry in the Over-the–Hill Soccer League tied Mansfield, Sunday, on their “home field” at Lakeville. (No team in the league has been found willing to come to the Vineyard for a game.)

Skip Dostal scored the Vineyard’s goal. Bob Hammond filled in as goal keeper and made a dozen saves.

The team has played five games and has one win, two ties and two losses thus far

This weekend the team plays a double-header with Westwood with games on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
