What are the best materials for protecting artwork?

Laura Anderson, owner Frame Center, State Rd. Vineyard Haven:
First, only acid-free materials should be used to protect the artwork. Secondly, a conservation-quality glass or plexiglass is essential for any work that will be exposed directly or indirectly to ultraviolet (UV) rays. It has a protective coating that blocks UV rays. Fine art that is framed this way can potentially last a lifetime.
