On Sunday, the Tigers came within one of catching the Pirates in the sixth inning, scoring four runs but losing 7-6. The Tigers had won on Saturday, 7-4.

Also chalking up wins were the A's, 22-1 over the Cards, and the Cubs 5-1 over the Red Sox.

Monday, the two top teams faced off and the Cubs extended their lead over the A's, 3-2. Aksel Cooperrider started the scoring with a blast over the center field fence in the first inning. In the third, Aksel and brother Nianoa hit back to back doubles and it was 2-0, A's. But in the bottom of the third Mayhew Aliberti, Cardoza and Gunderson all hit safely putting the Cubs ahead to stay, 3-2.
