Martha’s Vineyard travel soccer U-14s in Challenge Cup

The MV United Under-14 boys’ travel soccer team competed in the 15th annual Cape Cod Challenge Cup tournament, hosted by the Sandwich Soccer Club, last weekend.

Playing in the most competitive Premier Division, the Islanders tied Weymouth, 1-1, then defeated Winchester 3-1, Saturday.

Sunday, the Islanders tied the reigning state U-14s from Ludlow, 1-1, qualifying for Monday’s tourney final versus Ludlow, which they won, 2-0.

Scoring for MV during the tournament were Ben Poole (2), Tim Roberts, Gabe DeOliviera, Noah Kleinhenz, and Gordon Moore.

Goal tender Matt Stone was shielded by Alex GordonBeck, Tim Roberts, Elie Jordi, Ben Poole, and Brandon Dwane.

The team resumes play next week with league playoffs at home, dates to be announced.
