Who killed the music?

June 1, 2011

To the Editor:

What a wonderful, long weekend Memorial Day was on-Island! Throughout the long, cool, wet spring, I had been envisioning a sunshine-filled weekend.

I was hoping "Smitty" would be back bartending on Oak Bluffs harbor, and he was. My sister and I couldn't wait to sit in the sun, along the water, with summer friends and hear a band. (Where was Mike Benjamin?)

When the music couldn't play it was explained that Oak Bluffs had put in an ordinance preventing amplified music. What? Music on a Sunday afternoon is part of the summer fun. Who was this decision made to help? Cetainly not the Island musicians that rely on the summer season to make money.

Bring back the music, please.
