Martha’s Vineyard U-11 lacrosse teams wins season ender

The Under-11 Vineyard boys lacrosse team finished its scheduled season by defeating Dartmouth at Dartmouth, 18-9.

It was a team effort, and Coach Dave Mercaldo credits all by name: Jack Creighton, Hunter Ponte, Riley Amaral, Zander Amaral, Aidan Gates, Camden Emery, Ben Peters, Michael Metcalf, Brendan Morris, Jason Davey, Gabriel Nelson and JJ Mendez.

The U-11s compiled a 4-4 record and will compete in the Falmouth Jamboree, Sunday.

U-13s edged by Dartmouth

Playing their best game of the year, according to Coach Bruce Mahaffey, the U-13 boys lacrosse team lost a nailbiter to Dartmouth, Sunday, 9-8.

Scoring was by Henry Wallace (3), Jacob Gunderson (3), Wallace Clark and Greg McCarron. Assisting were Jack Garrett (4) and McCarron.

Defenseman Sam Rollins earned the coach’s special mention.

Wildcats caged

The Under-15 and Under-13 girls youth lacrosse teams played Weymouth Sunday, and belled the ‘Cats.

The U-15s scored nine goals to Weymouth’s one. Aubrey Ashmun scored twice. Erin Hegarty, Lee Hayman, Alley Ellis, Belle Dinning, Kendra Mills, Sam Hargy and Shannon Morris all found the back of the net.

The MV U-13s won 7-2. Erin Hill tallied twice. Also scoring: Audrey McCarron, Lacey Dinning, Mackenzie Condon, Alexis Condon, and Addy Hayman. Kylie Hatt made eight saves in goal.

Both teams are at Acton this Saturday for the seasonal jamboree.
