The Tisbury School will celebrate the memory of teacher Michael Ovios on Friday, June 17 from 5:30 to 7 pm.

Mr. Ovios, 65, died unexpectedly at Massachusetts General Hospital on March 31. He taught at the Tisbury Elementary School for over 35 years and passed on his love of the arts, sculpture, theater, and industrial arts, including wood shop and ceramics, to generations of students.

“All are welcome to gather together at the Tisbury School to share stories and food as we celebrate the memory of our beloved teacher, Mr. Michael Ovios,” principal Richie Smith said in an email to The Times. “There will be no formal ceremonies planned during this event, people may come and go as they please. This will be an opportunity to walk the halls of our school, enjoy Mr. Ovios’ many sculptures throughout the building, and share stories with one another in honor of Mr. Ovios.”

Hamburers, hotdogs and refreshments will be served. The school invites guests to bring picnic style sides or a dessert, and “a story or two about Mr. Ovios, and a piece of artwork that you and or your children created in his classroom that we will display among many others in the gym and halls.”
