Find back-to-back entertainment in Oak Bluffs this Saturday with the 20th annual Harborfest, and the 6th annual Summer Solstice Celebration, complete with evening fireworks over the Steamship dock.
More than 40 vendors are participating in this year’s Harborfest, from 12 noon to 5 pm, along the Oak Bluffs Harbor.
“Each year, Harbor Festival surpasses the record crowds of the previous year,” according to a press release from Becca Rogers, administrator for the Oak Bluffs Association (OBA). “Over 40 vendors from near and far, including many of the Vineyard favorites, plan to return for one of the Island’s most popular events. Local artists, craftsmen, and antique dealers, as well as nonprofit organizations offering a tempting array of baked goods, raffles, and information about their causes, will be on hand.”
There will be live music on the deck of Nancy’s Restaurant featuring the Beetlebung Steel Band from 12 noon to 2 pm, Phil DaRosa from 2 to 3 pm, and concluding with Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish, from 3 to 5 pm.
The events are sponsored and organized by the OBA.
Not as old as Harborfest but gaining equal popularity is the Oak Bluffs Summer Solstice Celebration. Starting at 5 pm, Circuit Avenue is closed to auto traffic, and restaurants set up dining areas outside. In the past, Seasons, Sharky’s, and Deon’s have taken part.
To kick off the celebration, an antique car and Midsummer Faerie Festival parade starts at 5 pm. After a two-year hiatus, the OBA brings back the fireworks show, scheduled for 9:15 pm, weather permitting. Following the show, Entrain will perform at the end of Circuit Avenue, from 9:45 to 11 pm.
There is no admission charge for either event.
