Fashion Show for VYT
The Stina Sayre Design presentation of the 2011 Collection at a cocktail party and fashion show at Shephard Fine Artspace on Thursday, July 28, from 5 to 7 pm, is a benefit for Vineyard Youth Tennis. Designer Stina Sayre, a former professional athlete (windsurfer) observed, “Vineyard Youth Tennis gives so much to our community, and I wanted to acknowledge that gift.” Included in the 2011 collection is a new line of tennis togs.
Cubs on a tear
The MV Little League majors, the Cubs, continued their torrid way Saturday, collecting 16 hits in four innings to run away from the Tigers and remain two games ahead of the A’s, which kept pace with a 13-3 defeat of the Pirates. The Cubs have won 11 and lost 2. The A’s are 9 and 4 and have outscored the Cubs on the season, 91 to 83.
The rest of the league in order: Pirates 6-7; Cardinals 5-8; Tigers 5-8; Red Sox 3-10.
Summer Soccer to start
The Vineyard Football Association Adult Coed Soccer League is scheduled to begin play on Tuesday, June 28, at Tisbury’s Veterans War Memorial Park, embarking on an eight-week schedule of games on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5:30 pm and 6:45 pm.
There are six teams in the league: Atlantic Football Club, Coop deVille, Monto Orthopedics, MV Celtics, Shirley’s Hardware and Sports Haven.

Little League minor matters
Saturday, the league-leading Twins added luster to their escutcheon by outscoring the Orioles 8-2, behind the effective pitching of Auguste Pizzano and Colby Balboni.
The second place Marlins followed the leaders by outlasting the stubborn Reds, 15-12.
The Redlegs scored their dozen runs in the first three innings to lead by five. But the Marlins caught up to Mike O’Brien’s fast ball in the fourth and scored eight times, taking the lead they would not relinquish.
Holmes Holers Sail Again
The Holmes Hole Sailing Association begins its series of summer races on Sunday, June 16, with its annual Tune-Up sail-across-the-Sound race, beginning at noon.
Dan Culkin of West Tisbury has his experienced hand on the tiller, succeeding John Amabile as Commodore of the Association.
