Lacrosse travel teams triumph

The Vineyard under 15 youth lacrosse team swept the competition at the Cape Cod Jamboree last weekend.

They defeated Nantucket, 4-2, then topped Bourne, 3-1 and finished the weekend with a 7-4 shellacing of Plymouth to claim top honors finishing their season on the highest note.

Brian Hall and Nat Parker are the team’s coaches.

Under 11s conquer adversity

The MV Under 11 lacrosse team did itself proud at the rescheduled Falmouth jamboreee, Saturday. With only eight players available, the Vineyarders were forced to play with borrowed players and with no opportuty for a breather. Despite such difficulties, the Islanders bested Bourne, 10-5, passed Plymouth, 5-4, and faced down Falmouth, 5-5. They finished their season with a 6-4-1 record.

The team: Jack Creighton, Riley Amaral, Zander Amaral, Hunter Ponte, Aidan Gates, Michael Metcalf, Brendon Morris, and Jason Davey.

Coach Dave Mercaldo was assisted by his brother Kyle.

U 13s top Bourne

The Under 13 team defeated Bourne, 6-3, at Falmouth on goals by Jacob Gunderson (2), Donald O’Shaughnessy, Jackson Mahaffey, Henry Wallace and Sam Wallace with assists by Gunderson, Jackson Garrett. and Mahaffey.

The team then lost its last two games to Falmouth Maroon, 6-3 and Nantucket, 8-3.

Coach Bruce Mahaffey praised Chris Patnaude “who stepped up at game time to play three solid games in goal.”

As well as those mentioned above the team includes: Tom Irwin, Kevin LaPlume, Sam Rollins, Thomas Weston, Kara Datta, Gabriel Nelson, Cathal Robinson, Ryan O’Malley, Zach Rydzewski, JJ Mendez, and Colin Buckley.
