Now we must all be alert to excited, fun-loving children riding bikes or playing by the sides of the roads because June 21 was the last day of school. If you want to be prepared, September 8 will be the first day of school for the 2011-2012 school year.

The Oak Bluffs downtown and harbor area was really bustling over the past weekend with the Antique Car show and the HarborFest drawing hundreds of visitors and participants to the town. Thankfully the weather was quite nice most of the time, but as long at it is warm, people seem to enjoy the town.

A heads-up to anyone interested in a trip to Foxwoods. The Oak Bluffs Senior Center is sponsoring a trip there on July 13. The boat will leave Vineyard Haven at 7 am and return from Woods Hole at 6:15 pm, landing in Vineyard Haven at 7 pm. $25 will cover the bus trip and you only need to pay for your boat fare and of course bring spending money. To save your space, call Rose at the Senior Center at 508-693-4509 at extension 3. Due to some glitches in the new telephone system, you may find it difficult to reach her, but Rose says to keep trying and you will get through.

The Friends of the OBCOA are hosting a welcome back to summer potluck dinner for their loyal friends and returning clients on Saturday, June 25, from 5 to 7 pm. Join in their fun by bringing a dish or dessert for 12 to share. Music and beverages will be provided.

School report cards will be in the mail the end of June. Students with outstanding lunch balances and/or library books that need to be returned may pick up report cards in the front office. On Tuesday evening, goodbyes were said to 53 graduating eighth-graders who were awarded diplomas in a wonderful ceremony at the Tabernacle.

The school still has tee-shirts and sweatshirts for sale. In stock are youth-sized black Oak Bluffs School tee-shirts. Available children’s sizes are: extra small (2/4), small (6/8), medium (10/12), and large (14/16). Also, available in adult sizes small thru XXL. This is a fundraiser for the Class of 2013.
