Forty-three years of service
To the Editor:
In response to Lorrie Pickney's June 2 letter to The Times, wondering who planted a geranium on her husband's grave in the Oak Bluffs Cemetery, that person is Gail Landers of Oak Bluffs. She has been in charge of cemetery maintenance for the last 43 years and recently retired.
Every year since 1980, for the town's observance of Memorial Day, she has been planting those red geraniums on the graves of Oak Bluffs veterans.
Gail's last day at work was June 30, 2011, when you could have seen her mowing the cemetery for the last time. Thank you, Gail, for your service to the people of Oak Bluffs.
Linda Wilson
Cemetery Commissioner
Oak Bluffs
