Mixed doubles

The Field Gallery in West Tisbury Center is holding an opening reception Sunday, July 10, from 5 to 7 pm, for Michael Stimola, a photographer whose photos look like paintings, and Rob Franco, a painter whose paintings of boats look like photos. Not to be missed.

Being defined

Join Impressionist artist Bettie Eubanks Saturday, July 9 at the Upstairs Gallery at L’Elegance, 73 Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs. Ms. Eubanks will speak and invite discussion on defining your personal criteria for buying and collecting art at the gallery’s artist reception from 7 to 9 pm.

Book mark

Summer is a good time to enjoy a good book, and what makes it even more enticing is the chance to meet the author. Cousen Rose Gallery at 71 Upper Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs invites everyone to meet former ABC News Anchor, Carole Simpson, who will be at the gallery Saturday evening to meet visitors and sign her new book, “NewsLady.”

It’s all part of the reception being held Saturday, July 9, from 7 to 9 pm for the Breckenridge Collection of photography and paintings by Donna Straw. Music by pianist Nick Laudani.

A thousand words

When it comes to the remarkable paintings of West Tisbury’s Leslie Baker, a picture is worth much more than words. But this Tuesday, July 12, at 6 pm, Ms. Baker is presenting one of the Artist Talk programs at Shaw Cramer Gallery. She will be discussing color in landscape painting, something she is well-known for having mastered with distinction.

The Main Street, Vineyard Haven gallery is currently featuring Images + Stories, Mary Scrimgeour’s mixed media landscapes, and Kari Lønning’s hand-dyed and woven baskets designed to interact with Gary Magakis’ handmade bronze tables and lamps. The show opened July 4 and runs through Wednesday, July 13.

Something to celebrate

Ovid Ward’s recent painting “Windswept” has been accepted for show in the National Exhibit hosted by the Cape Cod Art Association in Barnstable. The show runs from July 14 through August 15. There will be an opening reception for Mr. Ward’s current work Saturday, July 9 from 5 to 7 pm at Homes on Martha’s Vineyard, a real estate office and gallery in Post Office Square in Edgartown.

Please touch

Santa Fe sculptor Kevin Box will be on hand to greet visitors at the Dragonfly Fine Arts Gallery on Dukes County Avenue during the Oak Bluffs Arts District Stroll this Saturday, July 9 from 4 to 7 pm. The artist first makes constructions in paper then casts in bronze, stainless steel, or aluminum. He hopes that people will feel free to examine and touch his work. Mr. Box has received a number of artistic awards and exhibited in various museums.
