Family, friends help Lisa Scannell recover from riding accident

To everyone’s delight, Lisa BenDavid Scannell, sporting an external fixator and riding in a wheelchair, was in attendance at the benefit spaghetti dinner and silent auction held in her honor on July 21 at the P-A Club in Oak Bluffs. A highly regarded riding instructor, Lisa was seriously injured in a riding accident in June. She is facing many months of healing and rehabilitation ahead.

After her accident, a few riders associated with the Martha’s Vineyard Horse Council quickly banded together to form an ad hoc fundraising group on Lisa’s behalf. The spaghetti dinner, donated by Marc Hanover of Linda Jean’s, along with a silent auction that offered more than 80 donated items, were the first fruits of their efforts to raise money to help support Lisa and her family as she recovers.

Other fundraising plans include a raffle for two separate Martha’s Vineyard dream vacation packages. The drawings will be held at the annual Horse Council dinner in December.

Other donations made be made to the You’ve Got a Friend, Inc. Fund, of the Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank, P.O. Box 1317, West Tisbury, MA 02575. Please write “Lisa BenDavid Scannell” in the memo line.
