Sure, the streets of Oak Bluffs quickly fill up with beachgoers, bikers and vacationers in August, but who would have thought a jazz band would add to the mix?

Last Saturday, the Martha’s Vineyard Jazz Festival kicked off the first annual weeklong event with a New Orleans style second line parade around Oak Bluffs.

The Made in the Shade Dixie Band led the long line of people around Ocean Park, up Circuit Avenue, around Trinity Park and down Central Avenue, ultimately ending up at Sand Bar & Grill. Of course, along the way, the parade picked up curious tourists and jazz enthusiasts.

The band had just arrived on the Island at 12:45 pm, and as soon as they got off the ferry, they changed and unpacked their instruments.

Throughout the week, the jazz festival will host various concerts at different venues on the Vineyard. For more information, visit their website.
