Here’s to brighter weather ahead as today, Monday, as I am writing this column, the rains are once again tropical. With so many important events lined up for the weekend, including the Fair, Illumination Night, and the OBFD Fireworks on Friday, we need to be thinking dry and sunny, not wet and yucky.

All this rain brings unwelcome visitors to my house which now I am thinking should be called “the bug house.” Ants, flies, spiders, Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, moths, etc. have invaded. The spiders jump at me or try to outrun me either along the ceiling or counters. I managed to catch an unidentified bug that was resting on my grandmother’s wall lamp, but alas the lamp suffered in the process, collapsing like a marionette with broken strings. Now I have to figure out how to get it back together.

But on the joyful side, the resident Cardinals are still carrying on a romance with the side mirrors on the car as they perform in front of them then fly off to the bushes perhaps hoping that they will find a mate and then back they go to the mirrors again, but that male cardinal rival is still looking back at them. I wonder if they will figure it out?
