At this morning’s White House briefing, Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest said President Obama trusts FEMA Director Craig Fugate’s judgments and decisions on Hurricane Irene response plans.

Mr. Earnest said, “Craig Fugate is a legitimate expert” on the topic, and Mr. Fugate is frequently updating the President on the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s findings.

On the FEMA website, Mr. Fugate said while it is too early to predict exactly when Hurricane Irene will make landfall in New England, it is never too early to prepare.

He said, “This is the storm the entire United States East Coast needs to pay attention to.”

In the video, Mr. Earnest talks about other steps FEMA has already taken.
