Two acclaimed, award-winning actors will star in “5 Mojo Secrets,” The Vineyard Playhouse’s final show of the African-American Festival of Music and Theater.

John Douglas Thompson, who The New York Times called “one of the most compelling classical stage actors of his generation,” was most recently lauded by the New York press for his performances in “Othello” (for which he won an Obie and a Lucille Lortel Award) and “The Emperor Jones” in New York City.

Suzzanne Douglas has appeared in a number of movies including “Tap,” “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” and “The Inkwell.” She has won numerous awards for her work in film and TV and is perhaps best known for role as matriarch Jerri Peterson in the sitcom “The Parent ‘Hood.”

Playwright Kathleen McGhee-Anderson is a successful producer of TV and film. Her production credits include “Lincoln Heights” and “Touched by an Angel.” Director Ricardo Khan is returning to the Vineyard after two successful runs (2009 and 2010) of his play “FLY,” which he both co-wrote and directed.

“5 Mojo Secrets,” which opened Wednesday, Aug. 24, is described as a contemporary play about an African-American couple navigating love, marriage and parenthood.
