Shop Talk : Back to school shopping in Edgartown & a bit on Menagerie
It's hard to believe that summer is ending and it is time for kids to return to school. With most kids doing some sprouting during the summer, it might be essential to buy some new clothes for school. Not to worry, our Island is full of great opportunities to complete your child's wardrobe quickly, efficiently, and with color. With so many places to choose from, I decided to give you a shopping map of Edgartown, just to get you started.
For the whole family, both small and large, Edgartown Clothing Company on South Summer Street, Vineyard Vines in Nevin Square on Winter Street and NRO on Dock Street all offer a secondary store dedicated to kids. In each of the three kids' stores, as well as the adult stores, which can be fitting for the young adult in your family, you will find the newest trends for clothing as well as accessories. Several offer opportunities to mix and match, which will make your shopping a little easier on the pocketbook.
Jack Wills, on the corner of Main and Water Street, is a store that "creates fabulously British goods for the university crowd," according to its website jackwills.com. They have already geared up for the back to school students and while originally designed for University students, their clothing is appropriate for the younger crowd as well.
For the colorful, more classic young ladies, Very Vineyard on South Summer Street, Katydid on Main Street, Aanya's in Nevis Square on Winter Street offer a full range of clothing from tops to skirts and pants to sweaters. Young men could complete their wardrobe in Sundog on Main Street.
Sporty and trendy young adults might enjoy the selections at Island Outfitters on North Water Street, The Bone Yard on Main Street, J. McLaughlin and The Great Put On on Dock Street, Backwater at the end of Main Street and hannah b. on Main Street are definitely worth a visit.
For the relaxed tee shirts and sweats vibe, check out Fresh Produce or Shirt Tales on Main Street and Island Company on North Water Street, as well as Soft As A Grape on Dock Street.
For those heading off-Island who want a memory of their great summer, a logo'd clothing item or bag from Menemsha Blues on the corner of Kelley and Dock Streets or The Black Dog on Main Street, might just be the favorite buy of the school year.
