VIDEO: Opening of the 66th Derby
VIdeo by Yoojin Cho
Early Sunday morning, a small crowd gathered at Memorial Wharf in Edgartown, patiently waiting for the opening bell of the 66th Derby.
The Derby committee paid its respect to the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attack with a moment of silence. Then weigh master Roy Langley rang the bell promptly at 8 am, which signified the official start of the weigh-in.
Herb Tilton arrived at 7 am and was the first in line to weigh his fish. He said, he began fishing at midnight and caught the 21.19 lb. striped bass shortly after midnight.
