Here we are amid those lovely, warm fall days that we brag about to tourists when asked how we deal with the summer crowds: “Don’t worry. We have September.” My Facebook feed runneth over with first-day-of-school pictures of all my friends’ children. That feeling of a new chapter is in the air. And if you know me at all by now, you know how truly excited I am for the kick-off of football season. The Edgartown travel team is preparing for our first trip of the season to Gillette next weekend, and I can hardly wait.
Carter Edward Olson, son of Michael and Morgan (nee Guerin) Olson, made his first trip to the Vineyard last weekend to visit grandparents Katie and Joe Guerin. Carter made his debut to the world August 17 in Boston. His aunts Lark and Hannah Guerin have been gushing ever since. Welcome, little buddy!
While I, myself, was at a wedding up in Boston last weekend, apparently 22 couples exchanged “I dos” on Saturday alone here on Martha’s Vineyard, and upwards of 40 couples over the entire weekend. Love is in the air, indeed. Among the Edgartonians, congratulations and best wishes go out to to Jacqueline (nee Meehan) and Matt Millard, and Dan and Cassie (nee Feverino) Bettencourt. Wishing each of you a lifetime of happiness with your new spouses. May the honeymoon never end.
Meanwhile, Derek and Brooke Avakian celebrated their first wedding anniversary on Sunday, September 11, first with lunch at Farm Neck, right back where they tied the knot, then with dinner at the Beach Plum Inn. Here’s to many more years of happiness.

The Martha’s Vineyard Ecumenical Youth Group is kicking off the school year with a Southern Dinner and Auction on Saturday, September 17, at the Federated Church in Edgartown. Dinner will be served at 6 pm, followed by a live auction. There will also be a slideshow presentation of the mission work done in Tennessee last June by the youth group. Everyone is invited to share a meal and learn about the work done by our youth.
Linda Bergeron Freedman wishes a belated happiest birthday to niece Mary Bergeron, who celebrated September 8, and to Martha Montesion and late mother Hilda Bergeron who share the special day. Additional birthday wishes go out to lovely lady Sydney Mullen on September 15; to computer wizkid Darren Belisle (September 17); and to fitness guru Max Sherman, on September 19. Hope you all have a good time.
