To the Editor:
I spent a wonderful weekend this summer at Martha’s Vineyard, which was lovely and unforgettable. As a volunteer at Ground Zero after September 11, 2001, I wanted to share my words with you, written written December 11, 2001, but poignant now and on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.
In one moment, one message, oneunified voice. They left “love” as their last word.
In this time of remembrance, we can find hopein the words left on the morning of September 11,by all those who tried desperately to call homeminutes before they perished.
Never before in human history have we recordedthe last words of so many, moments before death.Incredibly, from the planes and burning towers theircalls went through. In that last moment, they all leftthe exact same message, one that we must neverforget. They all said, “I love you.”
In one moment, one message, one unified voice…
They left “love” as their last word.
