Their last word
To the Editor:
I spent a wonderful weekend this summer at Martha's Vineyard, which was lovely and unforgettable. As a volunteer at Ground Zero after September 11, 2001, I wanted to share my words with you, written written December 11, 2001, but poignant now and on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.
In one moment, one message, one
unified voice. They left "love" as their last word.
In this time of remembrance, we can find hope
in the words left on the morning of September 11,
by all those who tried desperately to call home
minutes before they perished.
Never before in human history have we recorded
the last words of so many, moments before death.
Incredibly, from the planes and burning towers their
calls went through. In that last moment, they all left
the exact same message, one that we must never
forget. They all said, "I love you."
In one moment, one message, one unified voice...
They left "love" as their last word.
