The Tisbury selectmen met on Tuesday and set opening dates for the recreational and commercial scallop seasons.

Family permit holders may scallop in Vineyard Haven harbor and Lake Tashmoo beginning October 15. Commercial fishermen must wait until October 17 and are restricted to using dip nets in Tashmoo.

The Lagoon opens to family scalloping on October 29. Commercial fishermen must wait until October 31.

In other business, Tisbury board of health agent Tom Pachico asked the selectmen to approve board of health’s use of $5,000 received from the Cape and Vineyard Electric Cooperative for pre-construction preparations for the town’s solar array project at the town’s capped landfill. Since the board of health oversees the landfill, Mr. Pachico said they would like to use the money to obtain more information about the solar project, specifically what the board’s liabilities and responsibilities are, and what the load calculations are for solar panels.

Selectmen Tristal Israel and Geoghan Coogan voted to approve the board of health’s use of the funds. They also voted to award a contract for $23,650 to Watercourse Construction to construct a septic system at the Spring Building, which will be paid from already available funds.

Selectman Jeff Kristal was absent from the meeting.

At the request of Island Housing Trust executive director Philippe Jordi, the selectmen approved a monitoring agreement and regulatory agreement for the town’s Lake Street affordable housing project. Mr. Jordi said construction of four townhouses would begin in October, with tentative plans to hold a lottery for ownership at a selectmen’s meeting in late January or early February.
