Shop Talk : End of summer sales on Martha's Vineyard
The summer season has officially ended with the first day of fall last Friday. So what does that mean for us on the Island? Well apparently, after last week's heat wave, it might be just a tad too soon to completely convert our wardrobes from summer to winter. It does however mark the start of End of Season Sales including clearance prices on this year's summer stock. To give you a taste of what's out there, I visited some of our many great stores to see just what is hitting the sales racks.
Oak Bluffs is offering sales, store after store, on Circuit Avenue. Gear up for a winter of blinding snow with a new pair of sunglasses from Island Shades: selected glasses are 30 to 40 percent off. Soft as a Grape will keep you warm with 20 to 50 percent off sale on many great clothing articles for the whole family. There is a huge Year End Clearance Sale at Eastaway Clothing, which has a large selection for women, girls, men, and boys. Why not stock up on summer toys for next year at The Corner Store, because with a 50 percent off toys sale it just seems right. Follow up that stop with a visit to Basics Clothing so you can partake in their huge kids apparel sale before it's gone. Looking to add some color in your wardrobe? Glimpse of Tibet has a 20 to 50 percent off sale on clothing and jewelry. The Secret Garden has a special 50 percent off sale table that is not to be missed, as who knows what gift or treasure you might find with the holidays just around the corner. Vineyard Vines has a Whale of a Sale going on. You may also visit them at their Edgartown store.
Speaking of Edgartown, they have jumped into the sale fray with a passion not to be missed. At the end of Kelly Street, Rags is hosting a 50 to 75 percent off Warehouse Sale on their unique clothing lines, while Skirtin' Around has a 50 percent off sale on their summer items. Across the way on Mayhew Lane, Wish You Were There clothing is offering a 40 to 50 percent off sale too. Over on Winter Street, BlueFish has a store wide 20 percent off sale on all their costal boutique items, from clothing to bath and body. Next door at Bramhall & Dunn you will find not only a 50 to 75 percent off summer sale, but an amazing home goods sale as well. The home goods sale covers such things as 30 percent off Dash & Albert cotton rugs, 20 to 50 percent off select table linens and even 40 percent off Jacaranda Cotton Night gowns, just to name a few things. Don't forget that they also have their central store on Main Street in Vineyard Haven, where you may find an even bigger selection of sale items.
If you found yourself in Vineyard Haven, whether visiting Bramhall & Dunn or another great store, you might want to visit one of these stores who are offering some great deals. If you, like many of us, kept your camera very busy this summer capturing cherished memories, but are now letting those memories fade on your camera memory stick instead of bringing them into your daily life, it's not too late. You still have time to bring to life those memories by getting your favorite pictures printed at Mosher Photo on Main Street. You might want to then upgrade that picture with a custom-framing job, which you can inexpensively do at the Frame Center located at 459 State Road in the lower level of the Woodland Center. The Frame Center is currently running their Fall Sale of 50 percent off custom picture framing. Another special store off Main Street in Vineyard Haven is Riley's Reads, an interactive children's book and gift store that has been part of our community for the past eight years. Sadly this sale of 40 percent off the entire store derives from the fact that it is preparing to permanently close its doors. While we will miss this amazing store that has helped enrich the lives of many of our children, we wish the best to owner Zoe Pechter in the next chapter of her life. Thank you Ms. Pechter to all you have done for our community.
