Tisbury Water Works (TWW) has begun to notify customers that delinquent accounts must be paid in full by Friday, October 14. Accounts not paid will be terminated beginning on Monday, October 17, and will result in water shut-offs, according to TWW.
TWW said it adheres to Massachusetts General Laws with regard to exceptions and does not shut off water in homes occupied by a seriously ill person or an infant under 12 months. In a case of serious illness, the water department requires written verification by a physician, and for infants, verification of age with a birth certificate.
In an email to The Times, TWW superintendent Paul Wohler said that there are approximately 300 accounts on the list. “But we anticipate most of them will pay once we drop notices at their home,” he said. “Last April we started with 130 and only shut off 28 to 30 accounts.”
The TWW offices, at 400 West Spring Street, are open weekdays from 8 am to 4 pm. For more information, call 508-693-3100.
After payment is made in full, service will be restored to delinquent account holders during regular business hours only, on weekdays from 8 am to 3 pm.
