Vineyard Rotarians golf for Hospice, Island charities

A record 92 golfers turned out for the seventh annual Rotary Club Island Charity Golf Tournament at the Vineyard Golf Club on a perfect autumn Monday morning and afternoon.

Proceeds from the event benefited Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard and other Island charities.

When all was said and done, the team of Tom and Steve Pendergast and Connie and Matt O’ Doherty finished with the lowest gross score of 55. First place low net honors (50) went to Mark Looney, Dave France, Larry Leahy, and Doug Werther.

Mike Santoro, Dave Parent, Larry Gitlitz, and John Moffet were second place net, also at 50. Jarolslav Kral, Lisa Mathieu, Rene Mathieu, and Richard Stone were third place net with a score of 51.

The golfers with the longest drives were Lisa Mathieu on the first hole, Brett Leighton on the third hole, and Dave Brewer on hole 10.

Carol Shilakes was the lady to shoot closest to the pin at 13’4″ on hole six. John Newsome shot 16″ away from the pin on the 11th hole and Jon Kadima was 3’10” away from the pin on the 14th.
