‘Tis the season for ghost stories.
Island Theatre Workshop (ITW) presents a theatrical staged reading of “The Turn of the Screw,” a one-act play adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher from the novel by Henry James.
Published in 1898 and known for its ambiguity and many interpretations, “The Turn of the Screw” deals with possible ghosts and death in the English countryside.
“It is a most wonderful, lurid, poisonous little tale, like an Elizabethan tragedy. I am greatly impressed by it,” wrote Oscar Wilde shortly after the novella was published (it was first published in serial form in an American periodical, “Collier’s,” and later appeared in book form.
The ITW version stars Chelsea McCarthy, Lee Fierro, Don Lyons, and Chris Roberts, and is said to be “spooky, sinster, spine-tingling Gothic fun for Halloween,” according to a press release.
