The Vineyard soccer girls squared off with Nantucket, Sunday, and gave the unbeaten Whalers everything they could handle, before bowing, 2-1.

Aubrey McCormick scored the Vineyard's goal on a bending free kick from 35 yards out, near the right sideline. The teams were obviously evenly matched on the day, but the Whalers eked out the win in the second half.

Tuesday, the Vineyarders failed to score against Somerset/Berkley in an off-Island game and lost, 6-0.
