Free winter clothing

FaithMV Church of Edgartown is having a winter coat and clothing giveaway on Saturday, October 29, from 10 am to 2 pm at 359 County Road (right next to Jardin Mahoney’s Nursery in Oak Bluffs). Winter coats, gloves, sweaters, socks, hats, blankets, and comforters will be given away. To contribute winter clothing to the giveaway, call 508-687-9097.

Special Olympics considered

Martha’s Vineyard Community Services (MVCS) is holding an informational meeting on Tuesday, November 1, for those interested in getting involved in Special Olympics Massachusetts, a statewide program that promotes year-round sports training, competitions, and other health-related programming for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Community Services is hoping to start a program here and invites all potential athletes, families, coaches, and volunteers to attend the meeting and find out more about the initiative. The meeting will be from 4 to 6 pm in the board room, on the lower level of the middle building, MVCS, 111 Edgartown Road across from the high school. Sharing Circle

Starting next Thursday, November 3, a Sharing Circle will he held from 7:30 to 9 pm on the first Thursday of every month at the Yoga Barn on South Road in Chilmark. Sponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Whole Health Alliance, the circle is intended for those “…invested in creating a healthy, empowered, and vibrant Vineyard community,” according to a press release. “Come to share your heart and vision. Help us create a supportive and inspired network of healers, educators, and community builders. Sharing will be done in talking-stick fashion and will respect confidentiality.”

Island nonprofits in Vineyard trivia faceoff

Teams representing the Vineyard Conservation Society, the Polly Hill Arboretum, The MV Museum, and The FARM Institute will compete in a game of “How Green is Your Vineyard?” at Sharky’s in Edgartown on Wednesday, November 9 at 6:30 pm.

Each organization has assembled a four-person team to play the new trivia board game. The winning team will be crowned as the Vineyard’s “Green Giant.” A bag of canned goods will be donated to the Island Food Pantry in the name of the winner.
