Healthcare discussion for Martha’s Vineyard veterans

Representatives from the American Legion National Headquarters in Washington, D. C., are hosting a roundtable discussion about Veterans Administration (VA) healthcare on November 9. The meeting at American Legion Post 257 in Vineyard Haven starts at 5 pm.

All Martha’s Vineyard veterans who utilize the VA healthcare system are encouraged to attend to voice their concerns and opinions. Currently there is no contract between Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and the VA. Island veterans with a VA health plan must receive pre-approval through a clinic manager in Hyannis in order to obtain medical treatment and prescriptions on Martha’s Vineyard.

The American Legion’s Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Division has requested that those who plan to attend fill out a survey beforehand to help provide information about veterans receiving VA healthcare who live in a rural area.

The survey is available online at mvtimes.com or from Dukes County Director of Veterans Services Jo Ann Murphy. For more information, call Ms. Murphy at 508-693-6887.
