To the Editor:
I cannot vouch that "purity of heart" is the main reason my co-workers volunteer at the Dumptique. However, I can say for the most part, we are hardworking, committed volunteers who are here in the cold, wet, hot and stuffy weather trying to help the Island community. I seriously doubt that it is because we can have first dibs on some rugs that come in. Since you seem to have some virtuous notion of what it means to perform a noble public service (Oct. 27, "Insiders at the dumptique"), I suggest you consider volunteering at the Dumptique. This way you can impart your ideas upon us, and more importantly help with our shortage of volunteers.
