Some 30 elder Islanders turned out at the Tisbury Senior Center on Sunday evening (during the Patriots-Steelers game, no less) to celebrate 20 years of care and companionship offered by the center. A huge spread of food guaranteed that no one went home hungry. There was plenty left over, except of the white-on-chocolate sheet cake — the birthday cake itself.
Cora Medeiros, the former selectman, was presented with a plaque to commemorate her central role in winning the $300,000 state grant that, matched by the town, made building the center possible.
DJ Donald Rose spun the music, which ranged from old favorites to show tunes to rock 'n roll — upbeat background music that set the tone of for the warm, convivial evening.
