Catherine Macdonald Pomeroy Blair died on September 8, 2011, at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. She was 85.

Affectionately known as “Kits” to all, she was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Pomeroy of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Kits received her BA degree from Middlebury College in 1947 and a certificate from the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. She then worked for Allyn and Bacon, a publisher in Boston.

Returning home to care for her father, after a ten-year interval she had a second date with William Colfax Blair, who had graduated from high school a year earlier than she. They were married in 1952, and soon after they moved to the campus of Andover Newton Theological School in Newton, where Bill had enrolled.

During Bill’s active ministry, Bill and Kits raised three children and lived in Newport, N.H., West Newton, and Goshen, Conn. After Bill retired from the ministry, the family moved to their summer home in Oak Bluffs in 1972. Kits worked in the offices of Early Childhood Programs and the UNA of Dukes County.

Kits is survived by three children and one grandson. Her older son, Mark, is a resident of Oak Bluffs. Her second son, Bruce, and her one grandson, Nathaniel, live in New Haven, Conn. Her daughter, Hilary, and her partner, the Rev. Dr. Robin A. Miller, reside in Denver, Colo.

A memorial service for Kits will be held on Saturday, November 26, at 1 pm at the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury.

Memorial gifts may be made to the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury, where Kits was a member, or to the charity of your choice.
